This piece for orchestra is an experiment with the augmented scale (not to be confused with the whole tone scale) in combination with a theme in the second movement that consists of several perfect fifths. All of the ideas are symetrical, which is to say that there is no sense of traditional tension and release, so the object was to create motion using other means.
